Workers downed their tools at the Randwick Tramway Workshops and walked off the job in August 1917 over the introduction of a timekeeping system for individual workshop tasks. By the time the strike officially ended on 11 September, workers across most departments of the railways and tramways, as well as miners, waterfront workers and steelmakers workers had joined in. The strike spread along the eastern seaboard and included workers in Queensland and Victoria.Here are their stories.
