Day Out With Thomas is hitting the tracks and bringing the beat to the NSW Rail Museum in Thirlmere.
Across two extended weekends — Friday, Saturday and Sunday — enjoy live entertainment, mini-train rides, photo opportunities, scavenger hunts and plenty more. Take a steam train or railmotor ride with James or Toby from Sodor Station, and enjoy a day of music-inspired fun the whole family will love.

Enjoy a 40-minute steam train ride with James the red engine! Steam train rides depart Sodor (Thirlmere) Station at:
9.30am*, 10.30am, 11.30am, 1.00pm, 2.00pm, 3.00pm*
* operates Saturdays and Sundays only

Both tickets also include ALL DAY entry to the NSW Rail Museum where kids of all ages can explore the biggest display of heritage trains in Australia!
Food and drink options
A variety of food options will be available from a range of vendors. Self-serve BBQ facilities are also available on a first come, first served basis.
You’re also welcome to pack a picnic – don’t forget a rug!
Sensory-friendly options
We aim to make Day Out With Thomas enjoyable for as many visitors as possible. For guests who may prefer a quieter environment, the museum grounds are typically less busy earlier in the day, which can make it easier to enjoy the activities on offer.
Activities available around the grounds include visiting Thomas’s cab, mini train rides, jumping castles, the Imagination Station and face painting.
Parents, carers and visitors who may benefit from additional support can also access the following options during the event:

A quiet space located in a less busy and less noisy area of the museum grounds.

Sounds inside the museum building are turned off between 10:00am and 11:30am.

Visitors can request a quieter space inside the train during their ride with James. If this would assist your visit, please contact us with your booking details so we can help allocate seating accordingly.
