Steve Burrows

Experience the golden era of rail travel on this very special day out by heritage train to the picturesque Southern Highlands towns of Bowral or Moss Vale.

Enjoy an express run from Sydney and suburbs hauled by classic diesel locomotives from the THNSW fleet. At Picton, locomotive 3801 will replace the diesels for a stunning show of steam power ascending the Southern Highlands in style.

ONBOARD THE TRAIN

Sit back and relax inside one of our beautifully restored former NSW Government Railway carriages and take in the scenery, as we huff and puff our way to the Southern Highlands.

Enjoy the option of pre-prepared hampers and/or high tea served pre-prepared (priced separately), or simply order light snacks and refreshments throughout the journey using our online buffet ordering system.

Enjoy free time in Bowral or Moss Vale

OPTION 1 - ALIGHT AT BOWRAL

Upon arrival into Bowral, you will have around 2.5 hours of free time to enjoy the most sophisticated of all the towns and villages in the Highlands - home to an exciting and eclectic mix of eateries, boutique shops and cafes, as well as the stunning Corbett Gardens or Bradman Museum.

OPTION 2 - ALIGHT AT MOSS VALE

Alternatively, alight at Moss Vale where you have just over 2 hours to explore the hub of the Southern Highlands! Moss Vale is a town steeped with rail history and strong ties to the birthplace of the Highlands and is the region’s rural centre. Enjoy lunch at one of the many stylish cafes and eateries in the area, relax in the park beside the railway station, or take-in the atmosphere as locomotive 3801 is serviced at the station.
